Homework help
Calm, steady support with schoolwork
Homework can be the hardest part of a family's evening. I take that weight off you, sitting alongside your child to work through it patiently — so it becomes a settled routine rather than a nightly battle.
I offer calm and structured support, to make homework feel manageable rather than a daily battle.
I spent the last 11 months living in Germany as a full-time nanny and live-in tutor. During this time, I built meaningful relationships with the children I cared for, working alongside them through a range of challenges. One challenge I encountered repeatedly, both within that family and across other tutoring experiences, was homework.
I have tutored several bright and capable children who simply struggle to find the motivation to begin a task. When homework is first introduced, it can feel daunting and overwhelming for young learners. Having someone there to provide an extra layer of accountability, while also bringing abstract concepts to life, can make all the difference. I draw on a range of tools and strategies to help children get started, build momentum, and see homework as manageable rather than overwhelming.
Learning how to approach homework
For many children, learning how to approach homework is a skill in itself — one that needs to be taught and practised. When supporting a child with homework, I am therefore very intentional in how I approach each task. My aim is always to help your child become increasingly independent, rather than reliant on me.
At this stage, I believe critical thinking is one of the most important skills a child can develop. I never make the answer too obvious; instead, I use open-ended questions and subtle prompts to guide their thinking and encourage them to reach the answer themselves. Over time, this positive reinforcement helps children develop the confidence and problem-solving skills to tackle unfamiliar tasks independently.
How I can help
- Working through set homework across primary and early-secondary subjects
- Building routines — how to start, plan and check a piece of work
- Filling small gaps that make homework feel harder than it should
- Gentle encouragement so confidence grows alongside the habits
Sessions are online across the UK, or in person if you're near Durham. If you're not sure whether homework help or fuller tutoring is the better fit, a free introductory call is the easiest place to work it out together.
