Language tuition
English as a foreign language
Having lived abroad for a year and taught English in classrooms across Spain and Germany, I understand both how a language is built and how daunting it can feel to begin. I want your child to feel able to speak from our very first lesson.
Whether your child is just starting out or working towards fluency, each lesson is tailored to reflect the needs of the student.
My English as a Second Language (ESL) lessons combine grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure and phonetics, with new topics introduced gradually to support steady progress.
A programme built around your child
I use a range of recognised frameworks and curricula, from the British National Curriculum for young learners to the A1–C2 Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Before we begin, I encourage parents to get in touch to discuss their child's current level and reasons for learning English, allowing me to create a personalised programme suited to their needs. In the past, I have taught everything from 'English through play' for younger learners to 'academic English' and 'exam preparation'.
Speaking from the very first lesson
When teaching English, I believe it is particularly important that learners have as much opportunity to practise speaking as possible. My lessons provide a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, experimenting with language and developing their confidence in speaking with a native English speaker.
The lesson activities are varied and include everything from taking turns reading literature aloud, to playing charades, practising interviews and applying new grammar through conversation. I aim to make every lesson engaging and purposeful, whilst helping students develop a genuine enjoyment of the language.
Support for bilingual & EAL learners
If your child's first language isn't English and they're finding language barriers difficult at school, or would just simply like to learn English, please get in touch and we can talk through the next steps together.
